Job Summary/Description:
This is a unique opportunity for a Director of Technology who can see the big picture and juggle multiple priority projects. In this case, “the big picture” includes always-developing digital opportunities, plus two CBS affiliate TV stations, 2 NBC affiliate TV stations, one FOX affiliate, one CW affiliate, one METV affiliate, nearly a dozen “diginet” channels, a production hub with three control rooms and a fleet of facilities and equipment, including 15+ tower sites across the state of Nebraska. Must thrive on bringing organization and execution to what can sometimes feel like chaos.
Duties/Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Manage all technology aspects of the local media companies and operations, including – but not limited to – streaming studio, newscast studios, critical equipment for news and sports content gathering, news and sales bureau, transmitters, translators, towers, digital, streaming, CTV, ATSC 3.0 and whatever is next.
- Familiar with all major aspects of computer network administration.
- Have working knowledge of the latest operating systems software, including server and desktop operating systems. Willingness to become a superuser with any existing equipment and new equipment installed. Proficient with all basic business programs – Microsoft, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, Zoom, etc.
- Push station operations forward proactively and with urgency, especially in the innovative space.
- Determine an e-system to manage the completion of all engineering/technology projects in a timely manner and with proper and frequent communication with key stakeholders.
- Request quotes and submit CERs, as needed, and rapidly deploy/install equipment.
- Collaboratively create strategic technology improvement and replacement roadmaps.
- Ensure all aspects of FCC & FAA rules and regulations are met regarding all technology components and proper documentation filed with the online Public Files.
- Manage the maintenance and repair of all facilities associated with our station. This includes HVAC, generators, security systems, satellite dishes, electrical, hardware, etc.
- Available during evenings and weekends, as needed, and create an on-call critical needs staffing plan with response and communication expectations.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in IT/engineering or related preferred. Strong consideration for industry experience.
- Strong team leadership and relationship-building skills.
- Positive, professional, collaborative approach with internal and external partners.
- Strategic, detail-oriented and highly self-motivated.
- Experience managing large technology projects.
- Ability to operate and adapt in high-pressure situations.
- Travel to corporate meetings and all Nebraska properties is expected. Could require an occasional overnight stay. Company vehicle available
