Recap from Ad Day Under the Dome | March 23
AAF Nebraska’s Legislative Team and active members from across the state of Nebraska met and made connections with the Nebraska Legislature and Representatives as citizen advocates for the advertising industry. This year’s Day Under the Dome in Lincoln took place on March 23rd.

AAF Nebraska Awards 2023-2024 Scholarships
On May 1st, AAF Nebraska announced winners of the 2023 AAF Nebraska Scholarships. In 1987, AAF Nebraska established two scholarship funds to honor students attending Creighton University, University of Nebraska Omaha, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and University of Nebraska at Kearney. Along with these foundation funds the federation is able to award additional scholarships.

NARB: Coors Can’t Say “Light Beer Shouldn’t Taste Like Water”
“Light beer shouldn’t taste like water.” That’s the claim Molson Coors can no longer make in its advertising for Miller Lite beer. The Council of Better Business Bureaus’ National Programs’ National Advertising Review Board advised the brewer in an appeal case to stop making the claim, thus upholding a similar decision made by National Programs’ National Advertising Division. The NAD decision came about after the claim “Light beer shouldn’t taste like water. It should taste like beer” was challenged by Anheuser Busch. Read more here

Join Shaela and her team shape the 2024 AAF Nebraska Meet the Pros Conference to be held on February 29 and March 1, 2024. Shaela’s team is challenged to develop and create an exciting and informative seminar for college-level students interested in careers in advertising, marketing, communications and visual arts. Meet the Pros is an annual conference giving area college students an opportunity to explore careers in the advertising industry. Meet the Pros includes skill-building workshops, portfolio reviews, and professional round table meet and greets.

Survey Now Open:
UCLA Study on the Gender Pay Gap in Advertising
The first academic study on the gender pay gap in advertising in more than 30 years has been launched by Jess Watts, Brand Director, and Nancy Wayne PhD, UCLA.
AAF members are invited to assist in the research by taking the anonymous survey, which aims to understand the extent of the gender pay gap among advertising professionals, as well as perceptions surrounding it. American advertising professionals from all identities, backgrounds, roles and circumstances are invited to participate, as diversity of experience is critical to the study’s success. Join the Study

AAF Nebraska Student Member Spotlight
Meet Sophia Gilsdorf, a Visual Communication & Design student majoring in Graphic Design with a minor in Marketing Management at the University of Nebraska – Kearney (UNK). Sophia is from Falls City, NE and will graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UNK on May 19th. After graduation Sophia is planning to pursue a career in graphic design or marketing.
