Counting On New Connections
Phil Schwab jumped right into his membership benefits, meeting several industry connections that he intends to stay in touch with at the November AdConnect held at OBI Creative. Schwab said “That’s a pretty good return on investment after just one event.”
Schwab is the founder and principal of Door 417 Consulting, named for the apartment number he lived in with his wife Carrie when he initially started the company in 2021. The company is an accounting, finance, and consulting firm specializing in the marketing communications industry.
Three focal points capture his firm’s niche including providing strategic financial leadership, comprehensive financial management, and industry expertise. His team provides high-level financial guidance, helping agency leaders navigate complex financial landscapes.
He began his advertising journey working with local car dealers and a regional liquor store at a small agency in Austin, Texas. Schwab’s work experience transitioned from account services to accounting and finance, working with global brands MARS, Chevrolet, The Home Depot, and The Salvation Army.
Schwab pinpoints dependability, attention to detail, and the ability to foster strong relationships as the three most important qualities within advertising roles.
Emerging Trends
Advertising accounting and finance leaders are feeling the effects of automation and artificial intelligence to increase efficiency and accuracy. Outsourcing functions is a growing trend. High hiring costs and staffing shortages are two of the challenges that lead many firms to the Finance as a Service (FaaS) model, combining new technology with expert financial teams.
Mentoring As A Success Factor
Schwab is ready to provide mentoring to new or more tenured professionals. His standout mentor and co-worker was the head of accounting and finance for 35 years at one of the largest independent agencies in the country. “My mentor instilled in me the value of patience, the necessity of thorough
documentation, and the understanding that the quickest solution isn’t always the best one. Most importantly, he taught me to find excitement in the mundane – a critical skill in accounting.”
Time Well Spent
Running the vast network of trails in Omaha, cooking, and reading are hobbies that vie for his attention, along with his dogs Miles and Lindy.
Schwab is ready to make new industry connections.
