AAF Omaha Scholarship Winner

My name is Ryan Lloyd, and I’m a 21 year old Graphic Design double major at Creighton University living in Omaha, NE, where I was born and raised for 10 years. After a couple of moves due to my dad’s work from Nebraska to Little, AR, and then to Waco, TX, I settled back down in Omaha to study at Creighton. Although my major is mainly focused on graphic design, I’m also the Photo Editor and a photographer for The Creightonian, our school’s newspaper, as well as an aspiring freelance videographer, both of which are fields I’m just as passionate about as I am with graphic design.

As a kid, I had a hard time trying to figure out what I wanted to do for a living, a lot like many other children. It seemed like every year that I got older, my dream job had changed; I went from wanting to be a firefighter, to being a rock star, to being an architect, to even being an accountant. However, I never would have guessed that I’d be going to school to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, much less at a school that specializes in Pre-Med.

Over the years of being at Creighton, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to grow as a graphic designer with multiple different on-campus jobs doing the same kind of work. I’ve created a variety of posters, run social media accounts, and photographed and taken videos of events as the Director of Communications of the Inter Residence Hall Government. I’ve also designed many other posters and logos for different organizations and departments on campus as a graphic designer in the Division of Student Life’s Creative Suite. I even had the opportunity to attend the Meet the Pros conference put on by the AAF Omaha last year, which allowed me to receive a scholarship from the Federation as well.

In addition to graphic design, photography and videography have been a recently developed passion of mine, and it’s something I also hope to make a career out of. After attending Creighton’s Backpack Journalism, a trip that took 12 students down the the Arizona/Mexico border to film a documentary on immigration, I’ve been continuing to shoot photos for The Creightonian and for fun, as well as working on some freelance videos in the past year. I’ve done a few Creighton-related videos already for the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, as well as a couple videos for IRHG.

My hope is to be a multifaceted multimedia producer through the forms of digital design and photography, whether that be as a freelancer or with a company somewhere in the US, and plan to continue to work on my skills in each field I work in.
