AAF Omaha Legislative Committee Chairs
The Nebraska Legislature reconvened on July 20th through August 14th to finish hearings suspended in March due to Coronavirus. Several bills were passed including LR466, to affirm a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding that an employee fired for being gay or transgender violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
In July, the AAF DC actively fought the District of Columbia City Council proposal to implement a 3% tax on advertising. DC City Council Chair Phil Mendelson released the proposed city budget with the advertising tax and the budget was scheduled for a vote the next day. The AAF DC joined with the DC Chamber and AD 2 DC to coordinate a grassroots campaign to fight the proposed tax. The campaign was successful, and the budget was reworked without the tax.
