Happening at the National level
The Legislative Issues Committee continues to follow developments that could impact advertising and communication decisions locally. All has been quiet for the past month but as important updates are received, we will share them with AAF members here.
Happening at the State and Local levels
As a reminder, the Nebraska Legislature began its 60-day second session on January 3, 2018. Much legislative activity has ensued since then.

Several bills to consider reading about include Sen. Steve Halloran’s proposal of LB718, which would require The University of Nebraska to adopt a detailed policy governing free expression on its campuses. Sen. Curt Friesen brought LB157 up, which lawmakers gave first-round approval to on Jan. 31 and which would move the responsibility to collect and remit a surcharge on prepaid wireless phones from service providers to retailers.
February brings industry engagements to the forefront
On Wednesday, February 7, AAF Omaha hosted its annual Meet ‘n Greet event session with Nebraska lawmakers in Lincoln, Neb. The event drew more than 20 lawmakers together with AAF leadership and members for an evening of dialogue and lobbying for a “creative Nebraska.” Tax reform and advertising taxation figures were a key topic among participants.
The Legislative Issues Committee will continue to follow national issues, the State’s Unicameral Update and local news stories pertinent to advertising, communications and public relations industries and report on further developments in future issues of AdMuse.
