Legislative Committee Update – February 2020

Cassi Warren 2020Submitted by Cassi Warren
AAF Omaha Legislative Committee Chair

Thank you to everyone who reached out to Senator Lou Ann Linehan regarding LB989, proposed legislation to tax digital advertising in Nebraska. We appreciate all those who sent letters, testified, and raised their voice to oppose this bill. In addition to AAF Omaha, other organizations such as Nebraska Broadcasters Association, The Greater Omaha Chamber, and Nebraska Press Association reached out in opposition.

Another bill, LB946 has also been introduced this session. While it doesn’t specifically reference advertising, it is proposing a sales tax on services, and does not exempt advertising. You can find both bills here: https://nebraskalegislature.gov/FloorDocs/106/PDF/Intro/LB989.pdf
and https://nebraskalegislature.gov/FloorDocs/106/PDF/Intro/LB946.pdf.

If you’d like to send a letter to your Senator, you can download sample letters for each bill here:

Neither bill is expected to pass, but it is critical our Legislature understands the economic power we bring for the State and make our voices heard. We will continue to follow and send updates to keep you informed.
