Legislative Committee Update – February 2021

Submitted by Cassi Warren and Bob Mancuso
AAF Omaha Legislative Committee Chairs

Two topics continue to dominate the legislative advertising news, taxation of advertising and privacy. In regard to LB422, The Nebraska Legislature Revenue Committee heard testimony on February 3, 2021. The bill would presume a sales tax on all services. While not mentioning advertising directly, the ambiguity of this bill causes concern and will remain a subject we watch closely. Several states have proposed taxes on advertising and related advertising services and we vehemently oppose any such tax. Historically states that have implemented broad advertising taxes have immediately felt the impact on their local economy and repealed such taxes. Please act now! Contact your State Senator and ask them to oppose LB422. To find your State Senator click here.

In the privacy front, Facebook Privacy Matters group released their Community Standards Enforcement Report for Q4 2020. The report provides metrics on how they enforced their policies including 12 Facebook policies and 10 on Instagram. Looking to do a Privacy Checkup for your Facebook account?
