Happening at the National level

The Legislative Issues Committee continues to follow developments that could impact advertising and communication decisions at the state and local level.

Verizon completes $4.5B acquisition of Yahoo and launches Oath, new online media and advertising subsidiary

Earlier in June 2017, Verizon Communications completed its $4.5 billion purchase of Yahoo’s major digital assets. The company consolidated with AOL, which the company purchased in 2015. Oath, an outcome of the merger, is Verizon’s new online media and advertising subsidiary housing brands such as HuffPost, Tumblr and more, will provide advertisers an alternative to Facebook and Google.

World’s largest advertising agencies team up and launch The Common Future Project

To help the United Nations tackle issues of global importance, the world’s largest advertising agencies have united on common ground to spotlight climate change, inequality and poverty, among key issues. Launched on June 14, 2017, the Common Future Project targets YouTube users to raise awareness of issues, and each company focuses on a specific Sustainable Development Goal adopted by the UN.

Happening at the State and Local levels

 

The first session of the 105th Nebraska Legislature adjourned May 23, 2017. The Unicameral Update recently published a Session Review of each Legislative Committee’s results

Published June 22, 2017, the Unicameral Update’s Session Reviews summarize all bills considered during this first session. You can read through each committee’s review, including Agriculture; Appropriations; Banking, Commerce and Insurance; Business and Labor; Education; Executive Board; General Affairs; Government, Military and Veterans Affairs; Health and Human Services; Judiciary; Natural Resources; Nebraska Retirement Systems; Revenue; Transportation and Telecommunications; and Urban Affairs.

During this year’s session, the AAF Legislative Issues Committee followed bills under consideration most notably within the Appropriations, Transportation and Telecommunications and Revenue Committees.
