March is Legislative Action Month

March is Legislative Action Month

The American Advertising Federation Omaha (AAF Omaha) is the unifying voice for advertising in the Omaha/Council Bluffs metropolitan area. As advocates for the rights of advertisers, the club educates policy makers, the media and the public on the value advertising brings to the well-being of the community. AAF Omaha fosters the highest standards of practice and cultivates the industry’s present and future leaders. Sharing a commitment to make advertising a positive force, AAF Omaha is the only professional association in the area that binds together mutual interests of corporate advertisers, agencies, marketing and media services, suppliers, academia and other advertising, communication and public relations professionals.

March is “Legislative Action Month” for members, non-members and friends of AAF Omaha. Just recently, Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert issued a proclamation declaring March “Legislative Action Month.”

As part of our legislative advocacy and focus this month, it is my pleasure to announce a few specific programming dates for interested parties:

March 2: AAF Omaha, in partnership with AAF Lincoln, will host a Legislative Meet & Greet session with Nebraska lawmakers on Thursday, March 2, 2017.

March 30-31: Nebraska representatives from AAF will also participate in “Ad Day on the Hill,” the national club’s session to advance policies and concerns facing the advertising community at the national level, taking place later this month in Washington, D.C. Stay tuned to AdMuse for more information on this upcoming event.

Our industry makes a great impact on Nebraska’s economy. A 2015 study conducted by the world-recognized economic consulting firm HIS Global Insight, highlights sales activity and jobs created in the U.S. economy that are stimulated by advertising. Research shows advertising expenditures account for more than $33 billion in economic output in Nebraska, and advertising-driven sales of products and services helped support nearly 112,000 jobs in the state of Nebraska.

I can’t stress enough the importance to stay informed and involved in advertising politics. We all have a vested interest in our industry and it is our job to be the voice to represent it. I encourage you to contact your representatives, seek out relevant news and continue to educate your peers.

Be our voice this month!
