Legislative Spotlight – September

Tammy_Williams_2015_cropContributed by Tammy Williams, AAF Omaha Board Member and Legislative Issues Chair

With the 2016 Nebraska Legislature still in recess, I wanted to share some information on from the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry, as well as a recap of the 2016 Nebraska Legislature while in session. The Nebraska Chamber focuses its efforts ensuring businesses have a voice in the legislative process, following issues and legislation in five key areas impacting Chamber members: taxes, job creation, labor law, economic development and workforce. The 2016 Results for Business report summarizes legislation the State Chamber supported, and those the Chamber opposed.

See the report here or visit https://www.nechamber.net/advocating-nebraska%E2%80%99s-business-community for more information about the Chamber’s mission, its advocacy, programs and events for Nebraska’s business community.

From the Events calendar, the Nebraska Chamber recently announced its Legislative Forums for Fall 2016. Highlights from this State Chamber news item listed below. For a complete copy of this item, see https://www.nechamber.net/nebraska-chamber-announces-legislative-forums-fall-2016.

For more than three decades, the State Chamber has conducted legislative forums in cooperation with local chambers across the state. The forums allow the Chamber to gather input from business leaders on issues of concern, while staff provides summaries of recent state legislation and reviews how Nebraska is performing in key areas of economic competitiveness.

This year’s State Chamber forums will include a review of:
• Important business-related bills in the 2016 session of the Nebraska Legislature;
• Issues awaiting the Legislature in 2017; and
• The latest state rankings in areas that are important to the business community.

Local and state Chamber of Commerce members, along with members of the news media, State senators and members of the Legislature, are invited to attend. For those interested in attending one of the upcoming Fall Forums are asked to contact their local Chambers of Commerce, contact information listed as follows:
