Designing with Sidewalk Chalk and Design Software
Graphic design is Andrea Atkinson’s chosen profession. One of her career pathways is her first year of involvement in AAF Nebraska.
She sees that her belonging to our organization is benefiting her career. “It has been a great way to get active in the community and be a part of the advertising world. I get a chance to meet individuals who are also in the field and learn about things they are doing.”
Atkinson said “I believe that the main focal point of my job is to take our clients’ stories and make them come to life with design” As a Designer, Andrea feels fortunate to have been mentored by the staff at Eleanor Creative. She started as an intern and earned her stripes, learning from everyone.
Designers at Eleanor work with logo design, social media design, Meta ad campaigns, print pieces, and brand collateral to name a few formats.
Clients may want to reach new audiences, rebrand their 60-year-old business, or try something new and run an ad campaign to get more business. She finds it so fun to work alongside clients and with the other team members to make dreams become reality, and more importantly, to make them become a beautiful reality.
She adds “Which leads me to my other focal point, make beautiful work. Everything we have the opportunity to work on always comes out more beautiful in the end and it is such a great journey to get there!”
Atkinson appreciates having a lot of great clients at Eleanor. One of her favorites is Le Quartier. They are a bakery with locations in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska. Her firm runs their marketing and she has so much fun creating campaigns for their various pastries, desserts, breads, and more. It makes her hungry just thinking about it.
When asked about the three most important skills for success in advertising, Atkinson shared her thoughts. “During my time in the field, I have learned that the three most important skills are to be kind, do good work, and make a positive impact. Our work has the ability to influence.” Atkinson believes advertising is not a one-man band.
Humble Creative Beginnings
She shared that as a kid, she always loved art, whether it was playing with coloring books or sidewalk chalk. She could often be found doing something creative. Her love for creativity continued into high school, where she took her first graphic design class. She said “I thought it was really interesting and enjoyed learning something new. With that interest, I decided to major in graphic design at UNL and here I am!”
Atkinson’s work is rooted in the love of creativity, though her materials have changed from sidewalk chalk to more sophisticated ad-agency-centric graphic design software.
