Hi! My name is Annie Albin, and I’m currently a senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln majoring in journalism, advertising and public relations, and minoring in Spanish and psychology.

Coming into college, I was very, very shy. I took part in a learning community that let me meet other journalism majors, but other than that I kept mostly to a few friends. By the time my second semester rolled around, I finally worked up the courage to start writing for The Daily Nebraskan, where I stayed on as a writer and editor until my junior year. The DN was an important stepping-stone that helped me build my confidence and begin to branch out into different areas of communications and media. I’m really not sure what I’d be doing today if I didn’t spend so many hours pushing my introverted freshman year self into interviews.

During my sophomore year I became more interested in advertising, and by my junior year I was a member of UNL’s Public Relations Student Society of America, a copywriter at Jacht Agency and an exec leader of Ad Club. Some weeks can be kinda busy, but I tend to make it out alive with the help of a couple cups of coffee.

I can’t really imagine what it would be like going somewhere other than UNL. All of the professors I have had in journalism and advertising have been so passionate about what they do that I can’t help but feel excited for the future. I could talk about each professor I’ve had for hours, but one that especially stands out is Kelli Britten. Without Kelli, I would have never attended Meet the Pros and gotten the invaluable life experience I learned from that conference.

As my senior year is approaching and “adult life” is apparently coming at me fast- I have to admit I’m a little nervous. But the good kind of nervous, the kind that you get when you know there’s so much potential and so much good to come.
